ACCOMPLISHMENTS

AirFair® was organized in May 2002 and is officially registered with the State of California as a PAC (Political Action Committee).  The name AirFair® was chosen because we feel the citizens of the John Wayne Airport corridor cities have done our fair share of absorbing the impact of Orange County air traffic.  AirFair’s Mission: Stop expansion of John Wayne Airport.  AirFair’s Goal: To slowly and deliberately raise the level of discourse about permanent curfew, as well as flight and passenger caps, at JWA in order to accomplish political change.

Legislators

In an effort to augment its determination to effect political recognition of its goals AirFair® is constantly striving to establish a line   of communication with officials at all levels of local, state, and federal government.  Our contacts include:

 Community Outreach

Our committee members have made presentations to community groups, government agencies, and homeowners’ associations (HOA), and are often invited as exhibitors at community events.  HOAs, representing over 50,000 residents living in the JWA corridor have signed the Airfair® Resolution of Support. AirFair® regularly speaks at city council meetings. In addition, AirFair® often contributes articles to community association newsletters and is a link on several websites.

Communications

Newsletters
A semi-annual newsletter to keep the flight path cities informed about developments at JWA is distributed to everyone in our expanding database, residents, and associations as well as anyone who requests one through our phone number, website, or personal contact. In addition, all residents of Villa Park and the eastern side of Costa Mesa receive a newsletter. Cities in the flight corridor are our next targeted area for newsletters.

Website
 www.JWAirfair.com

Our website is updated regularly with status reports and news stories about JWA as well as AirFair’s activities and trends in the industry.

Media

Considerable coverage has been given AirFair® recently in the printed news media – specifically the LA Times, OC Register, Daily Pilot, and the Foothill Sentry.  Several television programs have been made incorporating AirFair’s message and using our members.

Research

AirFair® maintains an extensive, in-depth research program, following studies and developments all over the world on air traffic and its effect on health and the environment. This information is used in our publications and can be accessed on our website.  Our researchers are frequently called upon by political figures to provide research and  analysis of relevant transportation issues.

Committees and Meetings
The AirFair® organizing committee has met bi-weekly since 2002 to develop strategies to meet our primary objective to ensure permanent caps at JWA and to establish a permanent curfew.
Members also regularly attend meetings covering a wide variety of airport and multi-modal transportation topics e.g. Aviation Committees, BOS (Board of Supervisors), SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments), Orangeline, (a private-public agency promoting rail,  CA Maglev Alliance, CA High-Speed Rail Authority, and IARO (International Air-Rail Organization).
AirFair® has worked diligently with numerous Orange County cities encouraging them to participate in the newly resurrected Corridor Cities Coalition.  AirFair® believes a massive grassroots effort can block the inevitable pressures to exceed the current cap of 10.8 MAP (Million Annual Passengers).
